A special day in the English Lakes calendar, 24th March was when we announced the winners of our 2016 Employees of the Year. Directors and nominees attended a beautiful lunch at Lancaster House, eager to have the winners of seven different categories, including the prestigious MRWB Award, announced. A short citation taken from the nominations was read, and the winners received certificates and champagne.
When Tim Bell, General Manager at Lancaster House isn’t exploring local Lancashire walks and attractions on his doorstep, he also enjoys hoping across the boarder to Cumbria. Making the most of the fine weather, Tim heads up one of our most famous mountains…
With the heralding of summer, and the (theoretical) elimination of the risks of ice and snow in the Lakeland fells, for me this change of environmental conditions opens up the ability to tackle walks that one wouldn’t even contemplate undertaking in wintry conditions.

Today, Thursday 22nd May 2013, marks the 80th birthday of Golden Globe winner and Emmy-nominee, Joan Collins O.B.E (Happy Birthday Joan!) and as we were reminiscing over Joan’s extensive filmography over the years, we were reminded about the time Joan Collins stayed at Low Wood Bay on the shores of Windermere.
The star, most recently famous for the catchphrase “zip it, shrimpy” in the Snickers advert actually visited the hotel to film a thriller “The Pike” set on Windermere.
