John Kitts and Carly Robb were married in April this year at The Midland. We are thrilled that they allowed us a peek behind the scenes of their romantic and stylish 1920’s wedding celebration.
A Spontaneous Proposal
I had organised a surprise 30th birthday party for John with all our friends and family attending. When he got over the surprise, John made a speech thanking everyone for coming and thanking me for organising it. He then got down on one knee and proposed! He said he was waiting for just the right time and as all our family and friends were there it felt right to him, even although he hadn’t planned it! Being spontaneous, he didn’t have a ring but borrowed his mum’s. A month later during a mini-break to London he proposed again with a ring he had chosen.
A Stunning Location
We both loved The Midland as soon as we saw it. We were looking for a venue with a difference and one that would offer great photo shoot. The Midland is perfect for any weather, which in this country is a consideration!
The dress I wore for the actual ceremony was an Ian Stuart Bali in champagne. It was a beautiful dress and I felt amazing walking down the isle.
For the evening I wanted something I could move around in and with two children, nothing too long. I found a stunning white 1920’s looking dress from Rock my Vintage that was ankle length. It was so comfy and easy to move in.
John wore a traditional 1920’s dinner suit with braces which was so in keeping with our look for the day. The suit was hired from Mr Mr in Barrow-In-Furness.
Leek and Potato Soup or Salmon Terrine Raspberry Sorbet Pork Medallion with Mustard Mash or Chicken with Wild Mushroom Sauce and Potatoes Sticky Toffee Pudding or Creme Brulee
Everyone commented on how delicious the food was!
The table setting were stunning and fit our 1920 theme perfectly. We had family items such as the vintage table cloths, old cameras and a singer sewing machine. Itsy Bitsy Vintage then added old Morecambe postcards and crystal vases to create a 1920’s look. We choose flowers that would be popular in 1920’s like roses and chrysanthemums. I love autumn colours and even although it was an April wedding I think the colours worked well.
Our wedding cake was amazing and supplied by Cake Events in Barrow-in-Furness. It was huge with 3 double tiers! We went for a strawberry and cream layer, a lemon and lime and a chocolate with salted caramel layer. Yum!
We have still to have our honeymoon but its coming up soon. We are going to Disneyland Paris and taking the children. They are so excited, but not as much as their Mum and Dad!
