Award Winning Wedding Hair and Make up at The Wild Boar

Everything to do with weddings at The Wild Boar is woven around the individual needs of the bride and groom to create a truly unique day and happy memories to share with family, friends and future generations. We love to work with individuals and companies who have the same ethos and impeccable standards and who share our passion for bespoke weddings.

None of those individuals know The Wild Boar in quite the same way as Katie Dale, voted Best Wedding Hair Stylist of the Year in the North West of England 2015.

Tell us a little bit about your connection to The Wild Boar

Well, I guess it can’t go any further back than being born here, which is part of my story! My Dad was General Manager of The Wild Boar Inn at the time and so I have the earliest memories of growing up here surrounded by wonderful countryside and welcoming guests to the Inn. When it comes to wedding venues, this has got to be one of my favourites.

An early memory was being employed to make the toast at breakfast for the guests. Being fairly young and not very tall at the time I had to stand on a crate to reach the grill. After two weeks I asked for a promotion and went on to housekeeping, leaving the toasting to my older brother!

Christmas at The Wild Boar was always a special time  and I remember the wonder of Father Christmas arriving to give out gifts to the guests. Each year it seemed he had a different mode of transport – from the traditional reindeers to vintage cars, shire horses and even a tractor!

How did Hair and Make-up become a Career?

Hair and Make up was always a passion of mine, and in 1999 I was fortunate enough to get an apprenticeship at an award winning salon where I learned my craft. I’ve had over ten years salon experience and trained with L’Oreal and Guy Kremer. Since going freelance in 2009 I have been privately trained at the Manchester School of Make Up.

Describe the hair style that you are creating today …

The hair style that we went for today has a vintage feel to it. We kept it looking soft and elegant and in keeping with the dress and the overall style of the wedding. We finished it off with fresh flowers to complete the vintage look.

How would you normally go about helping a bride to choose make-up and hair style?

Having a trial hair and make up session is really important. It allows us to try different styles and gives me an opportunity to recommend a look that is in keeping with the dress and matches the personality and aspirations of the bride. Sometimes the bride will have a particular style in mind but after we spend time together, that can completely change but she will leave happy that we have arrived at just the right look.

“Katie did me proud on my wedding day. My hair and make up was kept very real to my style and personality, which Katie understood and took on board. Everybody at my wedding commented on my hair and make up, It lasted all day, and I felt amazing!”

What is your advice to brides about make-up?

One of the best pieces of advice for most brides is to be themselves rather than creating a completely new look for themselves for the day. Obviously there are some exceptions to this, but most brides want to look at their photographs ten years on and recognise the person they see. I find it best to accentuate a bride’s features whilst adding something special, but natural, to the look.edits-30-X2

I think it’s also important to use the best quality Hair and Make Up products on the market. I use MAC, Bobbi Brown and Illamasqua amongst others.

Is there a particular ‘Wild Boar’ style? …

In a word ‘relaxed’ tends to sum up The Wild Boar. It is such an intimate wedding venue with a family feel. The Wild Boar works in all seasons – the woodland creating a beautiful backdrop in summer and the cozy fires and beams making a perfect winter retreat.

Rachael, one of my brides from a summer wedding at The Wild Boar, wanted something very relaxed and with a Bohemiam style. I put in a soft wave in her hair to give it more volume and create movement. We finished the style with a signature pearl and crystal head piece which complimented the detail of her dress perfectly.
