Waterhead is delighted to be adorned with a TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice Award 2015, which means it is one of the Top 25 hotels in the UK based on guest reviews. It was also the only hotel in the Lake District to receive this award.
This is the second year we have been within the Top 25 hotels which is high praise indeed, but last year rather than sit back and enjoy the success we were determined to keep improving, to continue to delight our guests and exceed their expectations?
Something Unique and Special
There is no doubt that in the Lake District there is every type of accommodation you could possibly imagine, from youth hostels to Inns to guest houses with Michelin starred restaurants – truly something for everyone. But it also means hotels always have to be continually staying ahead of the competition. So we thought we would love to reward our guests who have put us in this prestigious position by upgrading our luxury bedrooms to make them that little bit more unique and to really make staying at Waterhead a special experience, whatever the occasion.
It’s the Little Extra Touches that Make all the Difference
What better way to ensure a warm welcome than complimentary drinks and snacks on arrival, so guests can enjoy a refreshing gin and tonic while taking in the breathtaking lake views from their spacious luxury room. Also included are Dormen’s jelly beans and salted nut mix, Yorkshire crisps, Willow mineral water, and a fresh fruit bowl.
Hospitality trays have been given the luxury treatment, and each luxury room now features personal Nespresso machines with a range of capsules, and a variety of Teapigs tea temples, with fresh milk in the room as standard.
Entering the bathroom, guests will find a range of London brand Molton Brown toiletries, and magnifying make up/shave mirror, which can be used whilst wearing one of our ‘Sumptuous’ Waterhead branded bathrobes and slippers. Little extras will be left by housekeeping as part of our turndown service, but we’ll leave those as a surprise!
And so to bed …
To ensure the perfect nights sleep, all our luxury beds are Super King size, with top quality Saturn mattresses which have a thick layer of memory foam plus the added support of a 1000 count individually pocketed spring unit, completed with a silk topper. Our Boutique Silk pillows and duvets offer a taste of opulence, filled with advanced Smartfil fibres, blended with pure silk, for a firm support pillow and beautifully draping duvet.
The walls of our luxury rooms are adorned with bold and unique artwork by internationally renowned artists Sarah Pye and Catherine Stephenson, who have been inspired by the local landscape and wildlife, and guests will also enjoy the benefit of a colourful gusmania plant in their room which will brighten up your surroundings and offer a boost of oxygen.

The location is idyllic, right next to Windermere and across the road from the Ambleside ferry pier. Great base for a walking holiday, a few minutes walk from Loughrigg. All staff friendly and welcoming. Rooms spotless, well appointed and comfortable. Stunning views. Excellent restaurant with good menu choice. Delicious breakfasts. Highly recommended. Holmfirth
