As the collection of premium gin continues to grow at the Waterhead, Anthony’s choice for January’s Gin of the Month is Williams Chase Elegant Gin. This gin takes us to Herefordshire and to the distillery owned by Williams Chase.
Chase Distillery
It is at this rural distillery that they make some of the most complex and elegant gin in the world and they are extremely proud to be British. They grow their own raw materials and they distil and hand bottle all of their products from the family owned single estate farm in Herefordshire. It is both the innovative methods and hard work at the distillery that has created a truly special gin collection. They have already been collecting accolades with their Chase Vodka which was awarded the world’s best tasting vodka at the prestigious San Francisco Spirits Competition.
Williams Chase makes a range of gins which includes their Great British Extra Dry Gin, Seville Orange Gin, and Williams Sloe & Mulberry Gin but for this month it is the Elegant Gin that we shall focus on.
Williams Chase Elegant Gin
The Elegant Gin which is bottled at 48% is described as the most complicated gin in the world and is the first and only gin to be distilled from cider apples. The art to the creation of this gin is firstly pressing cider apples, fermenting the juice into cider, then distilling into Naked Chase Apple Vodka. The spirit is then distilled with 11 carefully considered wild botanicals, including juniper, angelica, orange and lemon peel, hops and elderflower, in a small Carter-Head Still which they have lovingly named “Ginny”. It is then finished by the addition of naturally pure water taken from the aquifer that runs underneath the orchards at the farm. The resultant flavour is a full bodied, sharp yet fruity gin with tears and true provenance.
Tasting Notes
