Decidedly Green at Lancaster House

Green Tourism, gold award winner, Lancaster House have an ongoing commitment to everything environmental. Perhaps it wouldn’t be on everyone’s top ten must-see locations, but a dedicated team from the hotel visited Envirofirst Waste

Reduction and Recycling Unit recently to follow their trail of recycling in the hotel.

Fact: Plastic can take up to 500 years to decompose

They currently recycle paper, hard and soft plastic, tins, aluminium cans, glass, stoneware and cardboard as well as composting a variety of kitchen waste”.

Fact: 1 re-cycled glass bottle can save enough energy to power a computer for 25 minutes

Once on site, the team watched as the skips of waste were unloaded and a machine separated the debris by size. Having seen the process the team discovered that by segregating the waste from the hotel further they can save Envirofirst time and effort. Incredibly, only 2% of the total waste will go to landfill. The remaining debris is manually sorted into correct recycling bins, ready to be compacted or bailed.


Fact: 70% less energy is required to make re-cycled paper as opposed to producing it from scratch.
