TEDx at Lancaster University

logoLancaster University will be hosting a TEDx event on 18th June within a few minutes walk of Lancaster House on the University campus.

TED is a world renowned nonprofit organisation devoted to ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’ and previous speakers have included Richard Dawkins, Bill Gates and several Nobel Laureates.

The organisation aims to give millions of knowledge-seekers around the globe direct access to the world’s thought leaders: Each year, the world’s leading thinkers and doers gather for conferences that many describe as the highlight of their year.

The TEDx program is designed to give communities, organisations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. The TEDx event will be fully planned and coordinated independently by a group of students from the TEDxLancasterU group.  The theme is “Discovery: The journey so far”.

Some of the speakers set to present at the event include Professor Jim Wild; Scientist studying the space environment and links between the Sun and planet, Professor Rachel Cooper; Her research interests cover design management, design against crime and socially responsible design and Professor Tony McEnery; An expert in corpus linguistics, recently using it to great effect to research multiculturalism in the UK.  The evening will also consist of screenings of specially selected TED talks.

The event will be recorded and streamed live of the TED website with a potential reach of millions.
