It’s warming up for a beautiful bank holiday weekend in the Lake District– the lake has started to sparkle, the blossom is out and the locals are shedding their winter fleeces!
Now is the time to plan a get-away-from-it-all break in our Lake District Hotels and there’s lots going on. We’ve created a ‘Top Five’ activity weekend that will tick all the boxes – relaxation, culture, food, fun and festival.

1. Indulge in a cosy Lake District Inn

Arrive at your chosen bolt hole and find one of the hundreds of cosy pubs and inns that are serving hearty mouth watering local produce washed down with your chosen real ale or a hearty glass of red. A good choice of local establishments can be found in The Good Dining Guide.
2. Explore

Open daily, Lowther Castle stands on a site occupied by the Lowther family for over 800 years. The castle is surrounded by 75,000 acres of agricultural estate in Cumbria’s Lake District National Park.
3. Cruise England’s Longest Lake

Take a leisurely late afternoon cruise – enjoy the late afternoon sunshine on England’s largest lake, right here in the heart of the Lake District. Windermere Lake Cruises offer cruises from 45 minutes to 3 hours.
4. Culture

Why not book yourself a Sunday Stroller ticket for the Keswick Jazz Festival. With over 100 events, there is a huge variety of musical instruments, traditional and mainstream jazz from internationally acclaimed artists.
5. Splash

Book a learn-to-wakeboard session at Low Wood Bay Watersports Centre. A team of enthusiastic and experienced instructors using established training methods will have you gliding across the top of the lake within your first session. For those who enjoy a more leisurely pace, why not hire a canoe or kayak and discover the parts of the lake inaccessible by car.
So, still time to throw a few things in your weekend bag and head of to your country retreat at a Lake District Hotel.
What about camping, hiking and drinking real ale?!
All good ideas, but we only had 5 places on the list. They have some great places in the Good Dining Guide which serve some fantastic real ales and we plan to cover hiking soon.
