At Low Wood Bay this morning we are proud to host the launch of the British Gas Great North Swim and Karrimor Great Trail Challenge as part of a ‘Great Summer of Sport’ in the Lake District.

The Armed Forces soldiers (pictured above) have taken part in a fitness boot camp session this morning, here at Low Wood Bay Resort Hotel & Marina to prepare for the ‘Great Summer of Sport’.
The British Gas Great North Swim and Karrimor Great Trail Challenge take place on consecutive weekends in June. The ‘Great Summer of Sport’ in the Lake District will attract over 15,000 swimmers and runners to the Lake District this summer. The soldiers are supporting The Royal British Legion raising money through sponsorship at the summer events.

The Great North Swim is the UK’s biggest outdoor swimming event hosted at Low Wood Bay on the shores of Lake Windermere. The event takes place over 3 days on 22nd to 24th June 2012 and already has over 9,000 registered participants taking part this year.
The Karrimor Great Trail Challenge takes place on 17 June 2012, starting and finishing in Keswick. The event features marathon, half marathon and 10km distances all staged on the same day- providing something for everyone, from established trail runners to walkers.
June looks set to be a great month for sport in the Lake District with the 2012 Olympic Torch Relay also passing Waterhead Boutique Hotel and Low Wood Bay Resort Hotels & Marina on 21st June 2012 ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games in July and August.
